Carolyn L. Blosser 94, died Friday, January 2, 2015 at Loving Care Cottage in Houston, Texas.  She was born December 6, 1920 in Newton, Kansas to William and Roberta (Hayes) Thalman.  On August 16, 1938 she married Melvin Blosser at Newton, Kansas and he preceded her in death on April 2, 2001.  Carolyn was a member of the Champion Forrest Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.  She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Newton, Kansas. Early in her married life Carolyn was a hardworking farm wife.  Later she worked for Safeway, Macy’s and Henry’s in Wichita.  She followed her husband to Europe with his job where they lived in Italy, Belgium and Australia. Music was important part of Carolyn’s life. She played string instruments and was especially proficient at the steel guitar, guitar, and fiddle. The Blosser Family band performed at many churches, fairs and community school programs in the 50’s.  Melvin and Carolyn were the hit of many weddings and gatherings when they lived in Europe and Australia.  In addition to her love of music sewing was near to her heart. She enjoyed sewing dresses and clothes and sharing many dolls and crocheted works with her friends and family.  Carolyn will be remembered for her sense of humor and love of her friends and family.

 

She is survived by her children: Jim and his wife Julie Blosser of Bloomfield, New Mexico, Nancy and her husband Bill Schlender of Houston, Texas and Jane and her husband Steve Bingham of Seattle, Washington.  She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

 

Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Phylis Roche and 5 sisters and 1 brother

 

A gathering and committal service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Petersen Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  There will be a private family burial in Restlawn Gardens of Memory Newton.

 

Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to Loving Care Cottages in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
