Life Sketch for Catherine Helen (Regier) Wiens

Catherine (Regier) Wiens, 92, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Kidron Bethel Health Care in North Newton, Kansas.

Catherine was born at Bethel Deaconess Hospital on September 23, 1926 to J.U. and Minnie (Voth) Regier.

Catherine was a graduate of Bethel College, the class of 1950. She received an English degree and was the Homecoming Queen the same year.

Catherine was a teacher in the Walton public schools, until the birth of her children, when she began substitute teaching and homemaking. When she could no longer drive due to an eye condition, she rode her bicycle throughout Newton well into her later years of life.  She loved pets, especially cats, enjoyed gardening and keeping up with the yard work. She was an active member in the Bethel College Mennonite Church and volunteered at the Newton Et Cetera Shop and the Newton Medical Center Hospital Gift Shop.

She is survived by her children: Timothy (Kathy) Wiens, and Mary “Minnie” Wiens (Steve Malone); three grandchildren: Terra Wiens, Ruth Lehman Wiens and Seth Malone.

She was preceded in death by her husband: John Curtis Wiens; parents: J.U. and Minnie Regier; and sister: Bertha Gerber.
