Charles “Chuck” A Hollingshead passed from this life on December 29, 2016 at Kansas Christian Home in Newton Kansas.

 

Chuck was born at home in Garnett KS, on Nov 23, 1928, to Frank and Frances Hollingshead and continued living there until until he joined the Marine Corp in 1946. In 1948, he left the Marines as a Corporal and attended the University of Kansas.  In 1951, while living in Kansas City, KS, he met Barbara Watkins on a blind date and married her six weeks later. They were married for 65 years.

 

In 1956, they moved to Newton to be closer to Barb’s family. Chuck worked for Safeway Stores and in 1960 began his long career with the US Postal Service until he retired in 1990.   They attended and were active at several churches in Newton, including First Baptist, Bible Baptist and Newton Bible where Chuck served in several capacities including Deacon.

 

Services will be held on Tuesday, January 3 at 2:00 P.M. at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton. A viewing will be held at Peterson’s on Monday January 2, from 1 to 5 P.M. and final internment will be at Eastlawn Cemetery in Zimmerdale, Kansas.

 

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and his only brother, Wallace of Beloit KS. Survivors include wife Barbara who lives at Kansas Christian Home in Newton, Son Dan (Patti) Hollingshead of Longmont CO, Daughter Becky (Bill) Smoldt of Castle Rock, CO, and Son Tim (Denise) Hollingshead of Wichita, KS. His survivors include six Grandchildren and fifteen Great-Grandchildren.

 

Memorial donations can be made to Kansas Christian Home in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
