Dorotha Joan “Joanne” Stangle

Dorotha Joan “Joanne” Stangle, 86, passed away on September 14, 2019. She was a wonderful mother and person. Joanne was the first born child of the late Clarke and Vesta (Barr) Braden of Hutchinson, KS.  On February 11, 1933. Her family included her twin sister Zelpha Jeanne, brother William “Billy”, sisters Jeanette and Barbara. She loved growing up and graduating high school in Sterling Kansas but traveled

the United States with her Uncle Andy and Aunt Zelpha and lived at military bases including Ft. Townsend in Washington and Camp Crowder in Missouri with them. She married Donald Stangle on June 6, 1954. Eventually they moved to Peabody, KS for 9 years to start his Optometry practice then made Newton their family home. Joanne graduated from Bethel College with a degree in social work. For over 40 years she was a champion for children as a social worker for the State of Kansas. Don and

her gave their kids, Deena, Doug, Donnie and Debra an adventurous childhood including horses, motorcycles, water and snow skiing, sailboats, traveling and a family love for Kansas State and the Yankees. At the family lake place, 5 to 30 people could show up and she would have room and food for all. But the pride and joy of her life were her grandchildren, Braden and Nicholas. She loved absolutely everything they did and loved them with all her heart. And they loved her. Joanne loved traveling, she enjoyed golfing and fishing especially with her sons. Donnie and her enjoyed cooking and were foodies. They enjoyed trying new recipes and eating out. She was a Member of the Red Hat Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Trinity Heights United Methodist Church and many bridge clubs. She is survived by her daughter Deena Stangle, Berkely, CA and daughter Debra Vetter, Husband Perry, Fargo, ND and her granddaughter Braden and grandson Nicholas Vetter, her sister Zelpha Stocklin, Brandenton, FL and many nieces and nephews. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Clarke and Vesta Braden, her husband, Dr. Donald Stangle, her sons Doug and Donald Jr Stangle, her brother Billy and her sisters Jeanette and Barbara. Joanne’s Celebration of Life will be at 2 pm Friday, October18, 2019 at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Heights United Methodist Church or Caring Hands Humane Society.
