Edna Giesel

d. February 9, 2019

Our dear Mother and Grandmother, Edna Schmidt Giesel was born on September 17, 1936 to Allen and Anna Decker Schmidt at Morton, Texas.  She peacefully passed away on February 9, 2019 at the age of eighty two years.

Mom enjoyed living in the Burns, Kansas area for most of her life on her childhood farm. She received her education at Burns Elementary School.  She accepted Christ into her life at the age of 17.  She was baptized in to the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on February 12, 1952 by Minister Frank Unruh.  We will always remember and learn from her example of never complaining when the sorrows of life came her way.  It was important to her to treat others less fortunate with love and compassion.  As the evening shadows lengthened in Mom’s life, she left us a clear assurance that God’s peace was in her heart.

On February 7, 1958 she was married to our father Stanley Giesel.  Their home was blessed with two children. One daughter Finette and one son Randy.  After sharing life’s joys and sorrows for almost 48 years, our dad passed away, leaving mom very lonely.

Dad and mom gave us children a happy childhood.  Mom spent mom hours working in her yard.  She loved the great outdoors and watching wildlife.  Many times we went on long walks through the pasture picking wildflowers searching for fossils in the ravine or catching minnows in little glass jars at the creek.  We enjoyed picnics in the orchard and our dogs and cats were a special part of the family.  Even though her eyesight was failing she faithfully walked to the barn twice a day to feed her cat, Corky.  She loved to cook and when she arrived on our doorstep with a warm pear pie, we thought we had it made!

Each grandchild and great grandchild were a special delight to mom.  They fondly remember sitting on the picnic table on fine summer days, blowing bubbles.

Those left to cherish her memories are one daughter: Finette and husband Lyle Koehn, Burns, Kansas; one son: Randy and wife Arlene Giesel, Burns, Kansas; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one brother: Ferd Schmidt of Burns, Kansas; three brothers in law: Lee and Mary Giesel Barron, Wisconsin; Robert Marten Inman, Kansas; Bill Giesel Moundridge, Kansas; one sister in law Arlene and Willis Koehn Moundridge, Kansas; and many relatives and friends.

Those waiting for her are her parents, parents in law, her husband, two grandchildren, five brothers, and one brother in law, two sisters and three sisters in law.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Eden Mennonite Church in Burns, Kansas with Minister Roland Koehn presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Eden Christian School in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
