Edythe E. Wendt, 102, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Asbury Park in Newton.

She was born in Sedan on Oct. 8, 1910, to Louis and Cora (Ballinger) Wendt. Edythe was retired from KGE as a home demonstrator. She was a longtime active member of First United Methodist Church in Newton. She was very active in the Newton community and volunteered with numerous organizations, including the bloodmobile and Asbury Park.

Edythe was a great friend to many and a loving aunt. She had a smile for everyone she met. Edythe was a woman of great faith who loved her Lord.

She is survived by her niece: Barbara Tatum of Dallas, Texas; great nieces and nephews: Kathy, Sheryl, Michael, Robin, Robert and David; cousins: Louise, Dennis, John and Daniel.

Edythe was preceded in death by her parents; brother: Lewis; and nephew: Robert Wendt.

A service of celebration and remembrance will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Newton, with the Rev. Douglas Tofteland presiding.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The casket will not be opened at the church service.

Graveside committal service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2013, at Greenwood Cemetery, Sedan.
