Evelyn Fae Haury, 95, passed away on March 5th, 2018 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, KS. Evelyn was born February 7, 1923 in Kansas City, MO. She was raised in Halstead, KS by her loving parents, Winfield and Lula (Kauder) Gram. In 1941 she graduated from Halstead High School. During WWII she worked for Boeing as an expeditor. In 1946 she married Walter G. Haury in Halstead. She and Walter relocated to Chicago while he attended dental school at Northwestern University. After Walter graduated they moved to his hometown, Newton. During their 49 years of marriage they were blessed with five children that would bring them 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Evelyn took up golf and tennis in her spare time and was an accomplished player of both sports for many years. In 1986 she got a hole in one at the former Newton Country Club. In the 1980’s she took up oil painting. She excelled at painting landscapes, trees were her specialty. She also enjoyed playing the piano. Evelyn’s favorite pastime was enjoying the company of her many friends. She was also very active in her church, First Presbyterian Church. 

 

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Walter G. Haury on March 31st, 1996 and her son in law, Major John W McGee on January 1st, 2012. She is survived by her children, Deborah Kay Bertram of San Antonio, TX, Beverly Ann McGee, Douglas Kent Haury, Ronald Scott Haury, all of Newton, KS and Lawrence Edward Haury (Dana) of El Dorado, KS; grandchildren, Dr. Michael Bertram (Mary), Kurt Bertram (Morgan), Melissa Vajnar (Justin), Captain Mark McGee (Jamie), Chandler Oliverson (Mark), Lily Oliver (Anthony), Jared Haury, Connor Haury, Carson Haury and Hannah Haury; great grandchildren, Grace and Elias Bertram, Jake Vajnar and Nautika Oliver.

 

Visitation will be held at Petersen Funeral Home on Thursday, March 8th from 5 to 9pm with family present 6:30 to 8pm. Memorial services will be held at 2pm on Friday, March 9th at First Presbyterian Church, 900 Columbus Ave. A private family burial will take place prior to the service at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions be made to either First Presbyterian Church or Caring Hands Humane Society in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
