Loran Fredrick Wilkens, 96, died on Saturday, May 31st at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, Kansas.  Loran was born on January 8, 1918 in Newton, Kansas to William and Olive Glee  Wilkens.  He married Jean Moore on June 20, 1941 and they were married for almost 65 years until her death on May 19, 2006.

Loran retired from Beech Aircraft Industries where he worked in the data processing department as a supervisor. He enjoyed gardening, model trains and being an active member of his church.  Loran enjoyed family vacations, which almost always were in Colorado.  He will be remembered as a very kind and loving man by his family and those who knew him.

He is survived by his son: David A. Wilkens of Burlington, Kansas; and two granddaughters: Stephanie Wesselowski & Michelle Farris and 3 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife: Jean Wilkens; parents: William and Olive Glee Wilkens; brother: Clifford Ray Wilkens; sisters: Mildred Lantis & Hazel Burnett.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 4th, at the Hesston United Methodist Church in Hesston, Kansas. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 3rd, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.  The family will be present to greet friends during visitation. A graveside committal will follow the Wednesday service at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, Kansas
