Marjorie Kirkpatrick

Kirkpatrick ,Marjorie ” Margie” (Burns), 84, passed away August 6, 2013. Margie was born March 11th, 1929 and grew up on the family farm in Fallriver , KS. And attended a one room school house.  Her parents were Morris Patrick and Hilda Charity (Radcliff) Burns.  She is survived by her sister Margaret Ann Seiwert and her family.

Margie is preceded in death by her husband Max D. Kirkpatrick. They were married following his World War II and Korean War enlistment, March 17th, 1951 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Wichita, KS. They raised their family in Newton, KS.  St. Patrick’s Day was always a celebration in the Kirkpatrick family.

Margie is survived by her children, son Pat ( Rita) Kirkpatrick, Newton, KS : daughter Kathryn Kirkpatrick, Ft. Collins, CO;  Daughter Joan ( Michael Snider) Kirkpatrick, Wichita, KS; daughter Helen Grotz, Beloit, KS; daughter Virginia Kirkpatrick, Newton, KS; daughter Mary ( Roger) Simmoneau, Beloit, KS; son James Kirkpatrick, San Antonio, TX. Eleven Grandchildren, Jacob Kirkpatrick, Paul ( Patty) Kirkpatrick, Kari Moss, Adam Moss, Carl Snider, Nick Snider, Jonah Grotz, Tasha ( Brandon) Russell, Ashley ( Colin) Nusser, Alexis and Ella Kirkpatrick. Four great grand children, Elijah and Angelina  Hernandez, Lillian and Max Russell.

The family were members of St.Mary’s and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Parishes in Newton. Margie was active in church and school organizations, a 4-H teacher and a literacy volunteer. Margie was an avid reader as well as a womens’ state champion trap shooter.  Margie taught herself and later her children to cook, sew and knit. She was a Mom who put three complete meals a day on the table for nine people. She was an accomplished seamstress, and sewed dresses for all five girls every Easter and Christmas. Margie was the embodiment of strength and perseverance, which she applied with an iron will to overcome handicaps. Her children are filled with love, respect and admiration for all she was. Marjorie attended Sacred Heart high school and college in Wichita, KS. She graduated with an Associate’s degree. She worked at St. Francis Hospital as a phlebotomist. While working there she met her husband Max on a blind date. As he was 6 foot 4inches and wearing a fur coat covered in snow, she wondered what she had gotten herself into. Seven children later, we think she was still wondering.

The family wishes to thank Chaucer Estates for the years of compassionate and loving care.   Additional thanks to Home Health of Kansas for the attention and assistance towards the end of Margie’s life.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 9, 2013 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with The Reverend Juan Garza presiding.  Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Petersen Funeral Home the family will receive friends after the Rosary until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
