Valley Center – Melvin F. Buxman, 75, passed away May 7th at Via Christi Village Ridge, Wichita.  Melvin was born on a farm in Lost Springs, KS on January 31, 1943. He was the son of Andrew and Caroline (Hanschu) Buxman.

 

The family moved to a farm outside Ramona, KS where Melvin grew up and attended grade school and graduated from Centre High School.  Melvin worked at Obermeyer Chevrolet in Herington, KS until 1969 when he moved to Salina to be the Truck Manager for Jim Sullivan Chevrolet.  He married Pamela Begnoche on October 16, 1971 in Miltonvale, KS.  The union was blessed with the birth of a son Jeffery in 1976.  In the fall of 1980, they moved to Newton where Melvin opened Buxman Motors – Pontiac, Buick, and GMC.  Melvin served as President for Pontiac and GMC Ad Association for 10 years in the 1990’s. Melvin served in the Army Reserves, was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Newton Rotary Club.

 

Melvin loved spending time with family and adored his grandchildren Mackenzie and Drew.  Melvin and Jeff always enjoyed driving their classic cars each year to the Ark City Car Show. Melvin enjoyed going to Druber’s each morning to have coffee with friends, playing golf, and he loved to travel.

 

Melvin retired in 2009 and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and dementia shortly after.  Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Caroline Buxman, two brothers Elisha and DeWayne.  He is survived by his wife Pam and son Jeff and wife Amy and two grandchildren Mackenzie and Drew, and one brother Loren Buxman.

 

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Aaron Filipek presiding.  Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  A graveside committal service will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Lewis Cemetery in Ramona, Kansas

 

Memorials are suggested to the Zion Lutheran Church or Serenity Hospice in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
