Sharon Bevan

Bevan, Sharon C., 74, passed away on Saturday the 16th of February at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, KS. She was born on May 15, 1938 in Newton, Kansas to Paul and Helene (Fleener) Grey and they preceded her in death. She graduated from Newton High School. Sharon earned her degree from Bethel College with a major in music and elementary education. She taught in Halstead and El Dorado, Kansas before becoming a homemaker. Music was a vital part of Sharon’s life. She was a church organist for 44 years at Salem United Methodist Church. She also gave private lessons and played organ for Petersens’ funeral home. She had an active social life and was former president of the Newton Chapter of PEO IA. She married John Bevan in 1960. They were blessed with 3 children Diane and Kevin Foreman of Shawnee, KS; Debera and Phil Mellentine of Seymore, MO; and Richard and Christine Bevan of Aliso Viejo, CA. She is also blessed with three grandchildren Peter Foreman and John and Kaitlyn Bevan.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Salem United Methodist Church in care of Petersen Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Salem United Methodist Church In Newton, KS with Pastor Nancy Crowl officiating. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Salem United Methodist Church in Newton with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.
