Vera C. Unruh 93, died Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Newton Medical Center. She was born February 3, 1920 in Buhler, Kansas to George W. and Mary (Dick) Matthies. On June 11, 1941 she married Otis Unruh in Halstead, Kansas and he survives of the home. Vera was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Newton, Kansas and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Vera enjoyed crocheting and sharing her creations with friends and family and especially the MCC sale. She also enjoyed crosswords and jigsaw puzzles. She and her husband both enjoyed the friends they have made at Kidron Bethel.
Vera is survived by her two sons Wayne and his wife Laura of Scottsdale, AZ and Daryl and his wife Cindy of Newton, KS; a daughter Sandra Gauthier of Glendale, AZ; one brother Lester Matthies of Cedar Edge, CO and one sister Mary Janzen of Newton, KS. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren 3 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Vera is preceded in death by her parents.
A service of celebration and remembrance will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at First Mennonite Church in Newton, Kansas with Pastor’s Anita Kehr and Kay Schroeder presiding. A graveside committal service will be 9:30 a.m., Tuesday at Restlawn Gardens of Memory rural Newton, Kansas. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday November 11, 2013 at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
