Warne Burton

February 17, 2019

On Sunday Feb 17th, 2019, Warne Burton, loving husband, father of two and grandfather of 5, passed away, at the age of 95. Warne was born on August 21, 1923 to Jacquitta Russell and Glen Burton in Meeker, Oklahoma. He was the second of 5.   As a young man Warne served in the US Army 528th corp. of engineers.  During his military career he achieved the rank of Corporal.  Even being called Corporal Jonesy by his peers.  After WWII, on January 14, 1946, he started his 42 year career as a dispatcher with the Santa Fe Railroad. On Feb 16, 1950 he married his lifelong love Ada Mae Maddox. This year they would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. Together they raised two daughters, Laura and Patricia. Warne had an extensive love for yard work, and fishing.  You could almost always find him out in his garden, mowing his or someone’s lawn,  or sitting in his chair next to the garage steeling a nap waving at the traffic.  He liked being the handy man and getting work done.  Had a true passion for doing it right the first time, so you don’t have to do it again.   Warne will be remembered most for his love for his family and for his short temper.  He is proceeded in death by his father, Glen, his mother Jacquitta, his wife Ada Mae, his brothers Roy, George, and Harry. He is survived by his sister Eula (Burton) Barrett, his daughters Laura Burton and Patricia Stewart, his 5 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.   Warne Burton’s service will be at Peterson Family Funeral Services, Friday February 22nd, 2018 at 10:30am.  With viewing before the service from 9 to 10:30. 1. What a beautiful life he lived, and such a heart for sharing his life, his love, with others. May God give your family peace and comfort through this difficult time. Love and hugs to you all.

  2. My thoughts and prayers for all of you….many memories from my childhood include Warne and Ada Mae.

  3. Warren was my neighbor for 16 years. He could usually be found in his garden. He was always considerate, giving and willing to negotiate if there was a disagreement . I will miss him.
