Allen “Wayne” Hughes

Allen “Wayne” Hughes 83, died Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Newton Medical Center. He was born November 1, 1930 in Halstead, Kansas to Harold and Phoebe (Kaedy) Hughes.  On October 22, 1950 he married Bonnie McCann at Newton, Kansas and she survives of the home. He was a retired farmer and cattleman in the Sedgwick area.  Wayne served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 serving with the Army Corps of engineers in Germany. He was a member of the Sedgwick American Legion and served on the Sedgwick Township Board. Family was important to Wayne and he greatly looked forward to spending time with his loving family and many friends.

 

He is survived by his wife Bonnie of the home; son Darren of Newton, Kansas; Daughter Jane Hanes of Florence, Kansas; Brothers Robert Hughes of Newton, Kansas; two sisters Patricia Moulds of Wichita, Kansas and Kathleen Ward of El Dorado, Kansas. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

 

Allen is preceded in death by his parents and one son Kevin Hughes.

 

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2014 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Denny Bell presiding. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home

 

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery Newton, Kansas.

 

Memorials are suggested to Kansas Christian Home or Sedgwick American Legion in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
