Life Sketch for Anta Krievins

Anta M. Krievins, 89, died at Harry Hynes Hospice, Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita on March 18, 2017.

Anta was born in Dobele, Latvia on June 5, 1927 to Armins and Antonija (Vilks) Aumalis.  At the age of 14, she and her family escaped from Russian occupation of Latvia and fled to Germany where they were held in refugee camps until the end of the war.

Years later they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in the United States. In 1953 she completed her degree in Pharmacy at the University of Nebraska.

On October 10, 1953 she married Arijs E. Krievins in Wichita, Kansas and Anta worked as a pharmacist at St. Francis Hospital. In 1962 they moved to Newton where she worked at Hall’s Pharmacy, Bethel Clinic Pharmacy and Wilson’s Drug Store.

Anta was a very smart, resilient, and courageous woman. She was a professional business person in a time where women seldom were. She was a role model to her family and taught and expected her children to be independent. Anta loved to knit and was known for giving hand knitted socks to family members at Christmas time. She worked hard professionally and in the home to make sure that her family was cared and provided for.  Anta and Arijs were long term members of Zion Lutheran Church in Newton.

Anta is survived by her husband: Arijs E. Krievins; children: George and Mona Krievins (Newton), Rita and Randy Sharpe (Lawrence, KS.), John and Janet Krievins (Olathe, KS.); 5 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
