Barbara Ann Haxton

Barbara Ann Haxton, 78, died Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at her home. Barb was born October 4, 1945 in Great Bend, Kansas to Nicolas Joseph and Mildred Maxine (Almquist) Meyeres. On September 14, 1963, Barb married Wallace Duane Haxton in Chase, Kansas. Duane proceeded Barb in death on July 12, 2016. 

Barb is a retired insurance coordinator for Via Christi and was a long-time member of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton. Barb was passionate about her faith, and enjoyed filling many roles through the years at St. Mary’s. She also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Barb enjoyed gardening, watching KU sports, and supporting her grandchildren and great grandchildren in their various activities. In 2020, Barb reconnected with Gerald Bynum and found love again. 

Barb is survived by her children; Susan Werth (Alan) of Cincinnati, Ohio; Lisa Calbert (Darin) of Newton; Lori Anderson (Greg) of Newton; and Tom Haxton (Mjkin) of Lindsborg; Sister Sharon Williams of Wichita; Brother James Meyeres of Chase. Barb is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.

Barb was preceded in death by her husband Duane Haxton; her parents; and by grandchildren Elyse Anderson, Blake Werth, Kristy Anderson.

Visitation will be Monday, August 26, 2024 between 5:00 – 7:00 pm; with Rosary beginning at 6:00 pm, at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, Kansas. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am. Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton, Father Andrew Bergkamp celebrant.
