Belen Terrones

February 10, 2015

Our mother, Belen Terrones, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2015. Mom was born February 28, 1920 in Newton, KS.   Mom and her life partner, our father Alfred, were married on Wednesday, February 4, 1948. Mom was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and an active member of the Altar Society where she chaired various committees. Mother found joy in cooking for her family and perfected her cinnamon roll recipe.  She was an avid reader of newspapers and especially enjoyed the Reader’s Digest Condensed Novels.  During World War II, Mom supported the war effort and was employed at an aircraft factory in Wichita, KS.  Mom will be remembered for her joy in sewing, especially making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and various stuffed animals. For a short period of time, Mom volunteered at the Newton Public Library. Mom’s greatest joy in life was simply spending time with our Dad and her family. Mother was preceded in death by our father, two brothers Carlos, Robert and sisters Edelmira, Petra, Jobita, Felicia, Sally, and Teresa. Survivors include children Sara Terrones, Albert (Ruth) Terrones, Emma (Dwight) Gribble, Alicia (Scott) Tighe, and granddaughter Claire Gribble.  In addition, two brothers Russell Hernandez of Newton, KS, Rudolph Hernandez of St. Augustine, FL. and numerous nieces and nephews. The rosary will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday February 28, 2015 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church followed by the Funeral Mass at 1:00 pm.  Burial will immediately follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Mother’s name to either Harry Hynes Hospice or Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  Contributions may be sent to Petersen Family Funeral Home at 215 North Main, Newton, KS  67114.
