Bessie J. Joy

Bessie Jane Joy 92, died Friday, January 5, 2018 at Asbury Park in Newton, Kansas. She was born October 28, 1925 in Buffalo, Kansas to Jessie Ivan. and Lottie I. (Reed) Robinson.  She married Herbert Key in 1943 they were later divorced and he preceded her in death. She later married Ray “Jack” Joy and he also preceded her in death.

Bessie was a long time active member of the St. Mary Catholic Church. Bessie always had a warm smile and hug for her friends and family. She made many new friends over the years she has had care at Asbury Park in Newton. 

Bessie is survived by her daughters: Irene Wise and Betty Behnke both of Hutchinson, KS; Janneane Keene of Florida; brothers Raymond (Betty) Robinson Neosho Falls, KS, Franklin Robinson of California; sister Laurine (Joe) James of Oklahoma City, OK, sister in law Leota Robinson of Buffalo, KS; sister in law Carlin Robinson of Pittsburg, KS and David Heide of Oklahoma City, OK. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her caregiver and friend Robert Davis of Newton, KS and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers: Carl, Johnnie, Ivan Jr. Floyd, Leonard and Lloyd and sisters Lottie, Florine and Lois and a grandson Nathaniel Isom.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 11, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Newton, Kansas with The Reverend Nicholas Voelker presiding. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday January 10, 2018 with recitation of the Rosary at 6 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends following Rosary. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Buffalo Cemetery in Buffalo, Kansas with The Reverend Daniel Vacca presiding.
