Betty Jean (McGinn) Hanna, 102, homemaker and retired co-owner of Hanna Furniture Company, Inc. passed away at home April 1, 2022 surrounded by family. She was born May 10, 1919 to Margaret (O’Keefe) and John McGinn on the family farm in Sedgwick, KS. She married George J. Hanna on January 28, 1949. Betty was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altar Society and St. Mary’s Choir. She was faithful to her hour at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Perpetual Adoration Chapel for 30 years. She joined Sorosis Club in 1967 and attained Honorary Member status. She enjoyed the fellowship and remained active until recent years. Betty’s true vocation was motherhood. She loved being a mother and raising her family. Throughout her life she nurtured many other children but was especially nurturing of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Betty was predeceased by her husband, George; siblings and spouses: Irene McGinn, Sam (Virginia) McGinn, Florence (Doug) Stites, Kay (Lynn) Stanley and Lois (George) Miller.

Betty is survived by children Tim Hanna (Karen Klein); Mike Hanna; Kit (TR) Goering; Lee (Bob) Koehn; Teresa (Doug) Larson and Claire (Tony) Young.

Also survived by grandchildren Daniel Carothers, Meghan (Dustin) Rupp, Ben (Jennifer Hunt) Koehn; Scott (Mandy) Goering, Kelsey Goering, Joel Goering; Clay Larson, Troy Larson, Dustin Larson (Jessica Crupper) and Lindsay Larson; great grandchildren Connor Reed, Harper Rupp, Destiny Ruff, Giana Holland, Jack and George Koehn and Norah Goering and Ethan, Journey and Jax Larson.  Betty is also  survived by numerous nieces, nephews.

Rosary at Petersen Funeral Home at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, April 7, 2022 Led by the Legion of Mary. Following Rosary the family will receive friends at Petersen Funeral Home.  Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church with The Reverend Thomas Welk Celebrant and The Reverend Nicholas Voelker Con-Celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery Newton.

Memorials have been established in lieu of flowers with St. Mary’s Catholic School, Newton Public Library Building Fund and Harry Hynes Hospice, and may be left with Petersen Funeral Home.
