Life Sketch for Catherine Schlender Becker:

 

Catherine Schlender Becker, 85, passed away on December 10, 2017 at her home in Newton, Kansas.  She was born on August 22, 1932 to Milton and Edna (Nanninga) Schlender in Newton, Kansas.

 

Catherine attended Moundridge Schools and was a 1951 graduate of Moundridge High School. She was an employee of the Presbyterian Manor for many years.

 

Catherine married Levi Becker on August 20, 1955 at the United Methodist Church in Moundridge, Kansas. They were married and lived in Newton for 62 years prior to her passing.

 

In time of Catherine and Levi’s need of care their two nephews and wives,Vincent and Marcella Becker and Jason and Elaine Becker,gave unselfishly of themselves to help them with their care.

 

Catherine accepted Jesus Christ as her saviour at Moundridge United Methodist Church as a young girl and continued to love and serve him until her death.

 

Catherine enjoyed family activities, gardening, canning, and traveling. She was an avid Kansas State University football and basketball fan.

 

She is survived by her husband: Levi Becker; daughter: Lu Anne Petropoulos; nieces and nephews: Vincent and Marcella Becker, Jason and Elaine Becker, Shelly and Dave Lujano, Carolyn and Rich Welbourn and numerous other friends and relatives.

 

She was preceded in death by her father and mother; brother: Fred Schlender; brother-in-laws: Edwin and Gina Becker, Glenn and Helen Becker.

 

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 15th, at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church of Newton. A public visitation will be held from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m., Thursday, December 14th at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. The family will be present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. to greet friends and family.

 

A memorial has been established for the Catherine Becker Service Fund, Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main, Newton, Kansas 67114.
