Catherine E. “Cay” Siebert, 92, passed away on September 16, 2022, at Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton, Kansas.
She was born on June 1, 1930, in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Earl and Florence (Cressman) Snyder. Catherine would attend and graduate from Guelph High School.
Following high school graduation Cay began teacher’s college. She would receive her bachelors degree in elementry education from Goshen College and her masters degree in religious education from Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary.
During her time in seminary, Cay would meet Roger Dale Siebert, and on September 1, 1961, the couple would be united in marriage. For many years and in many states, she accompanied Roger through four pastorates – three years in Inman, KS, six years in Bedminster, PA, nine years in Pandora, OH, and five years in Hillsboro, KS.
Following Roger’s sudden death in 1986, Cay started a new chapter of her life and began working at Meadowlark Mental Health Residential Facility as a mental health worker, a job she enjoyed and would retire from.
Cay had a gentle, loving, and caring heart. The later years of her life were devoted to volunteering with the Compeer program and at the local homeless shelter. She also volunteered helping those who were afflicted by domestic violence. She was active in the Church Women United and AAUW organizations in Newton. She co-chaired a yearly mental health retreat.
Cay is survived by her children, David Siebert and Ruth (Steve) Meyer; grandchildren, John Roger Bertsche, Benjamin Meyer, Stephany Meyer, and Nevin Siebert; great-grandchildren, Teydren and Kyla Bertsche; nieces and nephews, Steve Rempel, Debbie Rempel, Nancy Rempel, Lorne Loganbill, Jerry Loganbill, Carol Logan, Mark Reusser, Kristin Penner, and John Reusser.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Rev. Roger D. Siebert; parents, Earl and Florence Snyder; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Jim Reusser; sister-in-laws, Franny Remple and Elaine Loganbill; brother-in-law, Don Siebert; and nephews, Mike and Bruce Remple.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Shalom Mennonite Church in Newton, Kansas. A graveside service will be later at 2:00 p.m. at Haven of Rest in Hillsboro. Visitation will be the evening prior on Friday, September 23, from 5 – 9 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.
Memorial contributions in Cay’s name may be made to Shalom Mennonite Church and left in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
