Charlotte Jost

March 26, 2016

Charlotte Ann (Hart) Jost, 72, was welcomed to her eternal home on March 26, 2016 under the care of the compassionate staff at Schowalter Villa, Hospice of Reno County, her daughter Amy and grand-daughter, Jordan.

Charlotte was born on November 5, 1943 to Charles (Bud) and Helen (Little) Hart in Newton Kansas. She was their first child, welcomed by her mother, Grandmother Little and Aunt Lela as her father was in the Army Air Corps and was out of state at the time of her birth.

Charlotte was excited about the birth of a brother, Grant when she was five and ecstatic about another brother, Jim, about ten years later.

In 1958 Charlotte’s family relocated to Sacramento California where Charlotte graduated from El Camino High School. Summers were spent in Newton with her grandparents and working at the Newton Public Pool.

In 1964 she returned to Newton, KS, Living across Broadway from the Grandparents and began working at what is now AGCO where she remained employed until a car wreck left her unable to work in April of 2003.

Charlotte Married GD Jost in February 14, 1970. They later divorced.  Her only daughter, Amy Yvonne was born in July of 1971. Charlotte found being a parent the most rewarding phase of her life.

Charlotte was an active member of Salem United Methodist Church in Newton since 2000 and loved her Sunday School class, The Crusaders, helping with the church bizarre and keeping candy in her purse for any child who looked her way.

Charlotte loved her friends very much and enjoyed all of the things they did together, especially playing cards, traveling, eating out and going to movies. She also enjoyed reading and has been an advocate for libraries.

Charlotte had a close relationship with her three grandchildren; Jordan, Kelson and Kyler. When Jordan graduated from high school in 2010, Charlotte took the grandchildren and their parents Amy and Bruce on a trip to Alaska which was a once in a lifetime experience for them to share together.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter Amy and son in law Bruce Claassen; three grandchildren; Jordan (Claassen) Kissinger (Kyle) of Wichita; Kelson and Kyler Claassen both of Hesston; Brother, Grant Hart and his wife Sharon of Burian, WA; Brother, Jim Hart and his wife Kathy of Spokane, WA, three nephews; one niece and many cousins.

Charlotte will be remembered for her unwavering faith in Jesus and as a loving daughter, mother, nana, sister, and friend.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Salem United Methodist Church or Newton Public Library Operating Fund in care of Petersen Funeral Home. Condolences may be left with www.petersenfamilyfuneralhome.com

A memorial service will be held at Salem United Methodist Church, Newton at 11AM, Friday, April 22nd. With Pastor Ron Kite presiding.
