With great sadness, the family of Cynthia G. (Anduss) Klein announces her sudden yet peaceful passing at her childhood home on February 18, 2025, at the age of 68.
Cyndi was born in Newton, Kansas, on January 27, 1957, and spent most of her life in the community. She was rescued from the roof of her home during the Sand Creek flood of June 1965 and graduated from Newton High School (Class of 1975). After completing her studies at Salt City Business College in Hutchinson and Wichita Dental Technical School, Cyndi returned to Newton to work and raise her children. She retired in April 2020 at the age of 63.
Cyndi will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend—someone who was always there for others. She found true joy and fulfillment in cooking, baking, plants, gardening, and caring for animals, but above all, she cherished her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her own pursuits, Cyndi was actively involved in the family restaurant throughout her early years and naturally supported her parents in their later years before assuming stewardship of Newton’s Corner Lunch. The Corner Lunch was a much loved local spot, known for great atmosphere and even better food, where Cyndi’s family was always ready with a warm greeting, humor, and a kind word.
Cyndi had a lifelong love of cooking and baking, a passion that began in her parents’ home and at their restaurant, the Corner Lunch. She carried on their culinary traditions, creating beloved family recipes and preparing memorable Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas treats. Her home was always filled with the warmth of delicious meals shared with those she loved.
Her devotion to animals extended beyond her own pets—she enjoyed feeding birds, caring for neighborhood strays, and participating in the Caring Hands CAMP program, which ensured local cats were spayed and neutered. She is lovingly survived by her children: Jason (Pamela), Alisha, and Ashley (Wesley); her grandchildren: Katelyn, Chloe “Ace”, and Victoria “Tori”; her sister, Judy (Jim) Brown; her sister-at-heart, Phoebe Garcia, who became part of the family and shared a lifelong bond; her nieces, Tammy and Amy Brown; her beloved pets: her dog Gryphon and her cats Honey and Snowy. Additionally, over 200 varieties of plants, with select plants available for rehoming to friends and family in her memory at visitation and funeral services. She is also remembered by numerous extended family members, friends, and neighborhood animals she had befriended, including cats, birds, squirrels, possums, and raccoons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Geneva Anduss; her former husband, Gregg Klein; her beloved dogs Emma and Lily; and her cherished cat Casper.
Throughout her career, she worked at Beryl D’Shannon Aviation in the 1970s, owned Corner Lunch from 1989 to 1992, and was an Avon representative from 1990 to 2020. She also worked as a waitress at Water’s Edge Restaurant from the mid-2000s and as a receptionist and insurance billings clerk at Meridian Chiropractic Center from around 2009 to 2020.
Her lifelong love for pets and gardening brought her immense peace and happiness, and in her memory, the family requests that memorial donations be made to:
Caring Hands Humane Society (1400 SE 3rd St, Newton, KS 67114) or Dyck Arboretum of the Plains (177 W Hickory St, Hesston, KS 67062).
