Darrel Unruh

Darrel L. Unruh, 74, of Newton, Kansas passed away on Wednesday November 25, 2015. He was bornto Harvey and Geneva Unruh in Great Bend, Kansas. He grew up with his two brothers, Donovan and Dennis on a farm outside of Pawnee Rock, Kansas. He graduated from Pawnee Rock High School in 1959, then went to General Motors School in Kansas City. After completion of the program, he married Wanda Mausolf on September 14, 1960 in Albert, Kansas at Peace Lutheran Church. He then went to work as a mechanic. Their family grew with the addition of their son, Bryan. In 1965, Darrel went to work as a maintenance mechanic at Hesston Corporation. During his employment there, he attended night school at Wichita State University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration. Before leaving Hesston Corporation in 1980, he had worked his way up to become an Industrial Engineer with the corporation. Darrel worked for Gates Lear Jet, and then later in his career for Goodwill Industries. He retired from Goodwill Industries in December of 2007 as Vice President of Industrial Services. He was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and the Wichita Manufacturing Association. He enjoyed outdoor activities, especially snow skiing, water skiing, and windsurfing! Darrel kept his friends and family on the road through the years with his mechanic know-how.Darrel is predeceased by his parents, Harvey and Geneva Unruh. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Unruh; son, Bryan and wife Carol Unruh; brothers, Donovan and wife Naomi Unruh, Dennis and wife Kathy Unruh; Grandchildren Rebekah and husband Jordan Farris, Anna, Kendra and Joel Unruh; Great Grandson, Zachary Unruh, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday December 3, 2015 from 10:00-11:00 am at Christ Lutheran Church of Wichita,Kansas. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am and will be followed by a luncheon with the family at the Church. Burial will take place on Friday December 4, 2015 at 11:00 am in Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery located in Albert, Kansas.   1. Darrel had such a sweet spirit. I have fond memories of daddy and Darrel grilling and laughing. Heaven truly gained an angel. He will be missed. Wanda, i pray God surrounds you in peace and strength. Sorry i can’t make it to Kansas, but please know i am thinking of you and your family and love you all.
