She was born September 4, 1930 in Newton, Kansas to Henry E. and Inez (Decker) Huxman, the first of their four children.  Her mother, Inez Huxman, was tragically lost in an automobile accident when Delia was 10.  A couple of years later, Martha Fast, was married to Henry and became her step-mother.  Delia grew up near Walton, KS and was a graduate of Walton High School, Class of 1948.

On October 12, 1950, she was married to Howard W. Schroeder for almost 50 years.  Her husband preceded her in death on October 9, 2000.  They lived for a short time in rural Hillsboro, KS, a longer time near Walton, KS and for many years in Newton, KS.

Mrs. Schroeder was a homemaker for many years, who loved cooking, sewing and crocheting.  For many years, she and Howard also tended a large vegetable garden.  In 1974, she began employment with Newton Unified School District 373 and served in the high school cafeteria for 15 years, retiring in 1989.

Over the years, she was active in her church as a Sunday School teacher, pianist, organist and member of the Missions Circle.  Through the Circle, another of her activities was quilting.

She is survived by a brother, Marvin D. Huxman of Goessel, KS, and her three children:  Janet L. Davis, of Wichita, KS; Stanley K. (& Elizabeth) Schroeder, of Moorestown, NJ and Terry A. Schroeder of Newton, KS.   In addition, her survivors include 10 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, another brother, Wiley Huxman and a sister, Joan Murray, preceded her in death.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Kidron Bethel Village Health Care Benevolent Fund, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
