Don McCann

Donald R. McCann 89, died October 16, 2022 at Paramount Health and Rehab in Newton, Kansas.  He was born January 14, 1933 in Newton to Cecil and Iva (Hale) McCann.

Don retired as a car inspector for the Santa Fe Railroad.

He was married to Wanda Medlock in 1954; Vergia Mellott in May of 1975 to November 1998; Barbara Strain October 2000 to June 2005 and Marilyn Boese June 2006 to April 2015

Don was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his friends and loving family. He enjoyed traveling, doing jigsaw puzzles and collecting guns. He could also most often be found enjoying his favorite drink Pepsi.

Don is survived by children: Duane and Sandy McCann; Vicky McCann and Becky and Bob Gillispie; step children: Terri and Victor Monarez; Debi Nuss; Patt and Justin Keen; Roger and Teresa Strain; Mike and Tracey Boese; Mitch and Suzanne Boese; Tim and Julie Boese; Nathan Boese.

He is also survived by 30 Grandchildren and 21 Great Grandchildren

Don is preceded in death by his parents, wives, and great granddaughter Kilar Gillispie.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2022 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton with The Reverend Donna Voteau presiding. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hesston City Cemetery Hesston, Kansas

Memorials in Don’s name may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice in care of Petersen Funeral Home.

  2. My condolences to the family. Donald sure will be missed by all of us. It was always a pleasure to work with him nearly everyday for 8 months that I have been there. His smile I will always remember. Or how he would always joke around with us. May you rest in peace Don, we will miss you
