Donald J. “D.J.” Martin

Donald J. Martin 79, known as (DJ) by family and friends passed away February 5th at Kidron Bethel where he’d lived for 13 years.  DJ was born January 6, 1943.  Donald   attended school in Lewis, Kansas.  He went to Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah and graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy degree.  He also attended KU in Lawrence, Kansas where he studied neuroendocrinology.  He taught and worked in counseling therapy.  Donald was also interested in local history and genealogical research in USA and other countries.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Claire Martin Newsom and Donald Joe Newsom; nephews, John Newsom (Cassie); Andrew Newsom (Carla); two great nieces; and a great nephew, with numerous cousins.

Private burial, at his request, will be in the Belpre Cemetery, Belpre, Kansas, at a later date.  Petersen Funeral Home is in charge.   There will be no visitation.  Memorials in Donald’s name can be sent to Caring Hands Humane Society in Newton, Kansas.

  1. We shared an appreciation of music and I treasure some of the printed music he gave me. He remembered all of our children’s names and would ask about each one. He laughed easily with his delightful sense of humor.

  2. I only met DJ a few times, but I remember he always had his dog with him. That alone impressed me! May his family have peace as you grieve his loss. God bless!

  3. I lost my favorite cousin! He was more like a brother. We shared a love for genealogy. He was so very smart, and kind! I miss him dearly.
