Donald D Moody

On December 12, Donald “Don” Dee Moody joined his beloved wife Mildred “Tudy” Moody in heaven. Don was born in Wichita, Kansas on January 12, 1936 to R. Lee Moody and Anna B. Skor Moody. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, David Moody, brothers Bruce and Mike Moody and his granddaughter, Stacy Faye Rivera along with his beloved wife, Tudy.

Don is survived by his brother, R. Lee Moody, daughters Peggy Moody and Deanna Mumaguh, along with son by marriage, Doug Hyde and his wife Brenda Hyde, and daughter by marriage, Kathy Washburn, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Don served for over 20 years in the Marine Corp and US Army. He had three tours of duty during the Vietnam war. After retiring from the military, he proudly worked as a Harvey County Park Ranger from 1989 to 1998.

Don and his wife Tudy loved to travel and to go camping in Missouri. He was an avid fisherman both freshwater and deep-sea fishing having fished the waters of Alaska and Mexico as well as all over the United States. Every summer he took his grandchildren to West Lake to fish and if the fish were biting, they had candy bars for lunch which did not make Tudy happy.

Don was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) being the Commander of the Newton Post twice. He also actively worked as part of the Color Guard at the Newton Post. Being a very accomplished cook, Friday steak night at the VFW was a favorite activity of his.

In his back yard, next to his workshop, “the doghouse,” Don always had a garden with tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and sweet potatoes. Inside his sunroom he raised orchids and cactus as well as bonsai trees.

Although he will be greatly missed, his family knows he is happy now in heaven with his beloved wife Tudy. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Petersen Funeral Home. The family receiving friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A graveside committal with military honors will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday December 18, 2024, at Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Kent Little officiating
