Donna M. Unruh

June 27, 2021

Donna M. Unruh 93, died June 27, 2021 at Paramount (Asbury Park) Newton.  She was born May 10, 1928 to Egbert and Inez (Hanna) Schuessler.  On May 2, 1948 she married Jack A. Unruh at Newton, Kansas and he survives.

Donna was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Newton.  She has been co-owner and bookkeeper for Marshall Furniture in Newton since 1980. In her early working years Donna worked at Midland Bank and was a Teacher Aide at Lincoln Elementary in Newton.

She had a love of art and classical music and instilled that love in her children.  She enjoyed attending and supporting the Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony.  She and her husband enjoyed playing pinochle with their friends and she enjoyed square dancing in her younger years.  Family was important to Donna and she looked forward to spending time with her family and keeping up with their activities.

Donna is survived by her husband of 73 years Jack of the home; sons Steven (LaNae) Unruh of Moundridge and Gary (Suzanne) Unruh of Richmond, TX; daughter Cheryl (Robert) Ferris of Newton. She is also survived by her brother Albert (Shirley) Schuessler; sisters Marilyn (Don) Mosiman, Joyce Yock and sister in law Donna Schuessler.  There are 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren that survive.

She is preceded in death by her parents, infant son Douglas Alan, brother James Schuessler, brother in law Jim Yock, son in law Jack Smith and son in law Chuck Willhoite.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Albert Schuessler presiding.  Visitation will be 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday July 5th with the family receiving friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the chapel.  Private family interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery Newton, Kansas.

Memorial suggestions are First United Methodist Church Newton or Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony in care of Petersen Funeral Home.

  4. Dear Cheryl and Robert, please know that you are in my thoughts with deep sympathy in the loss of your beautiful mother. Mrs. Unruh was always a woman of integrity at church and work. Knowing your heart has been broken several times, please know I grieve and mourn with you Cheryl.
