Doris Louise Regier, rural Newton and Kidron Bethel, was born on May 22, 1932 in Newton, Kansas to Titus and Elizabeth (Winey) Horst. Doris grew up on a farm in the Highland community north of Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1950. Doris graduated from the Bethel Nursing program in 1955 as a Registered Nurse. Doris loved nursing and balanced various nursing positions with that of being a homemaker. She enjoyed entertaining her grandchildren and in particular looked forward to summer harvest when all the grandchildren would come to the farm to “help” with wheat harvest.  Doris also enjoyed sewing and was an avid reader.

She is survived by two sons, Myron and wife Lori of Haysville, KS and James and wife Debra of Whitewater, KS.  a sister Grace Ketterman of Leawood, KS. Doris had six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Menno, three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be held Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 3-5 pm at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. The Memorial Service will be Monday, April 16, 2018, 11:00 am at Zion Mennonite Church in Elbing, KS. Private family burial will be at Zion Mennonite Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Bethel College Nursing Program and may be sent to Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main, Newton, KS. 67114.

  1. I will miss your sassy and honest spirit. You truly touched my heart and you will not be forgotten. You were loved by so many. Rest In Peace with Menno now. Love and thoughts go out to the family.

  2. Its been so hard to be able to take care of you anymore. Not being able to come to your room to share stories with you. I wish that you was here still with us. I loved you so very much and you were one of my favorites that I always looked forward to come seeing when I came to work. I know you are looking over me and many others. I love you Doris. I am glad you adopted me as one of your own. I will always remember when you told me that you loved me just a day before you went to go be with Jesus. That will always be in my heart. Many memories and stories we shared while I was here at Kidron. Fly high and please watch over me. Miss you my sweet angel.
