Duane Haxton, 73, died, Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at his Newton residence. He was born October 19, 1942 in Great Bend, Kansas to Wallace Ray and Louise Emily (Werhahn) Haxton.  On September 14, 1963 he married Barbara (Barb) Meyeres at Chase, Kansas and she survived of the home.  Duane was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton.  He was a retired grocery manager for Dillon’s and worked as a custodian for St. Mary’s School prior to his retirement. Duane served on the Harvey County Sheriff’s Reserve for many years and he enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was an avid KU fan and enjoyed coaching his children’s baseball teams in years past.  Duane greatest joy was that of a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

 

 

Duane is survived by his wife Barb of the home; son: Tom and his wife Mijkin of Lindsborg, KS; daughters: Susan Werth and husband Alan of Cincinnati OH; Lisa Calbert and husband Darin of Newton, KS and Lori Anderson and husband Greg of Newton, KS; and one sister Shirley Long of Chase, KS. He is also survived by 30 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents Brother Larry Haxton and granddaughter Elyse Anderson.

 

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newton with The Reverend Nicholas Voelker, celebrant. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be prior to the Mass at 10:00 a.m. at the church.  Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday evening at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Private family interment will be in the St. Mary’s Cememtery.

 

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s School in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
