Duranda E Hogan

May 19, 1956 — October 8, 2023

Wichita

Duranda, 67, of Newton, Kansas passed through the heavenly gates on October 08, 2023 after battling long term illnesses to rejoin her late husband, Kyle Baymiller in the afterlife.

Duranda Ellis Hogan was the 3rd of 4 children.  The only daughter, she grew up in the deserts of southern New Mexico with her brothers Mike, Dan, and Wilson as a bit of a tomboy.  She enjoyed swimming, biking, and other outdoor sports and was a regular attendee at the Inlow Baptist Camp east of Albuquerque.

Following in her mother’s footsteps, she graduated New Mexico State University in 1981 with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Science.  Her career as a Nurse Practitioner spanned over three decades during which time she specialized in obstetrics and gynecology, with a focus on helping at risk or low-income populations.  In 2005, she graduated from Wichita State University with her Masters Degree.  She retired from nursing for medical reasons but still continued to volunteer as she was physically able.

An avid athlete, Duranda was known to her family as “the Skinny Running Nurse Practitioner.”  Traveling all over the United States with her young son Justin, she competed in marathons and triathlons.  The pinnacle of her athletic career was qualifying and competing in the Boston Marathon twice after the age of 40, as well as qualifying for the Ironman Triathlon.  Her love of physical fitness was shared by her son and he would regularly accompany Duranda to the pool for lap swimming before school.
In her spare time, Duranda loved to entertain company, bake, cook, and enjoy all forms of music; she was also an advocate for animals.  She was incredibly supportive of the people in her life, be they family or friends, and would help anyone she could.  A member of Alcoholics Anonymous, she gained sobriety from alcohol beginning in 2003 until her death.

Upon moving to Newton, Kansas in 2001, she met her late husband, Kyle Baymiller.  She was fiercely dedicated to him throughout their time together, and supported him during his battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma until his passing in 2022.

Remembering Dondi on this earth are her mother Janelda Hogan of Broomfield, Colorado; son Justin (Erika) Converse, and her grandson Sloan Converse of Wichita, Kansas; brother Mike (Lynne) Hogan of Broomfield, Colorado; brothers Daniel Hogan of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Wilson Hogan of Chicago, Illinois; step sons Max Baymiller of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Christopher (Jen) Bolin; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and their children; and the people who’s lives she touched during her time on this earth.

She is welcomed to Heaven by her father Ellis Hogan and husband Kyle Baymiller.
