Edith Marie (Jantz) Unruh, 98, passed away peacefully in her Newton home September 22, 2014.  She was born February 7, 1916 on a  farm near Greensburg, Kansas,  to John B. and Elizabeth (Wadel) Jantz.

 

On April 20, 1933, she married LeeVern Unruh.  To this union a son, Gary, and a daughter, Karen, were born.  LeeVern preceded her in death October 4, 1994.  Also preceding her were her parents, little brother Charles Walter Jantz, sister Betty (Jantz) Otto, and brothers Clyde and Clarence Jantz.

Edith is survived by her son Gary, and wife Nola, of Clay Center, Kansas; daughter Karen (Martens) Becker of Newton; sister Leona Eason of Atwater, California; brother Curtis Jantz of Dallas, Oregon; Clifford Jantz of Canton, Kansas; and Chester Jantz of Greensburg, Kansas.         Other survivors include three grandsons, Mark Martens, Quent Martens & wife Leisa, of Newton, Steve Unruh & wife Angela, of Cranston, Rhode Island.     Additional survivors are three great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter, three step-grandsons, and one step-granddaughter.         The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, September 26, at the Petersen Funeral Home, Newton.   Funeral services will be held at the Petersen Funeral Home Chapel Saturday, September 27, at 10:00 am.  Burial will follow at 1:30 pm in the Peace Valley Cemetery, east of Roxbury, Kansas.      Memorials are suggested for the American Bible Society, or the Good Shepherd Hospice, Wichita.
