Edna (Schmidt) Curtiss died August 27, 2024, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, Kansas. She was born on October 17, 1921, at Harper, Kansas, the daughter of Sam and Alice (Shupe) Schmidt. Edna attended school in Harper, graduating high school in 1939. She moved to Newton, Kansas in 1943.
Here she met, and then married Johnnie C. Curtiss on January 28, 1946. They had two children, Doug and Becky. Johnnie died January 26, 1999, two days before their 53rd wedding anniversary and his 80th birthday.
Edna worked for 17 years at Bethel Clinic as a bookkeeper. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, VFW Auxiliary, Eastern Star, and NARVRE.
Survivors include her children Doug (Linda) Curtiss of rural Newton, Kansas, and Becky (Bill) Heaston of Newton, Kansas; grandchildren Monica (Chad) Lester and Melissa (Brad) Deal; great-grandchildren Logan, Jenna, Lindsey, Riley (Morgan), Emily, and Bradley; and a great-great-grandson, Enzo, all of the Denver area; step-great-granddaughters Quartnie and Chelsy (Tyler); and five step-great-great-grandchildren of Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her husband Johnnie; her parents Sam and Alice Schmidt; two sisters Mary Schmidt and Ruth Hershberger; and two brothers Vernon Schmidt and Earl Schmidt.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Petersen Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Petersen Family Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, Kansas.
Memorial contributions can be made out to First United Methodist Church and delivered or mailed to Petersen Family Funeral Home.
