Elma Harms

Elma Ruth Harms, 94, died February 9, 2023, at Kidron Bethel Healthcare in North Newton, Kansas. She was born September 12, 1928 in Walton, Kansas to Theodore and Anna (Voth) Regier. On March 4, 1949, she married Ruben W. Harms at Tabor Mennonite Church. He preceded her in death on February 2, 2004. They coined the phrase, “We marched forth on March the 4”.

Elma was a long time member of Salem United Methodist Church in Newton. She enjoyed antiquing and searching for her next treasure. She also enjoyed bus tour trips where she made new friends. In her travels she made it to almost all 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii. Her greatest joy was her family. She looked forward to traveling to visit her sons, their wives and her grandsons and looked forward to family time when and wherever they could get together.

She is survived by her sons, Wayne (Barbara) Harms and Larry (Mary) Harms; sister Hilda Regier and sister in law Grace Regier. She is also survived by her grandson Aaron, Kenneth and Tim Harms and wo greatgrandchildren Ethan and Annaliese.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Petersen Family Funeral Home Chapel with The Reverend Donna Voteau presiding. Visitation with the family will be 1 hour prior to service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Memorials may be made to Kidron Bethel in Elma’s memory and left in care of Petersen Family Funeral Home.
