Life Sketch for Florence Rosiere

Florence W. Rosiere, 98, died on Tuesday, September 22nd at Kidron Bethel Health Care in North Newton, Kansas.

Florence was born on October 16, 1916 in Newton, Kansas to Wilhelm and Wilhelmina (Green) Kater.

Florence married Ernest “Ernie” Rosiere on October 16, 1949 in Newton. They were engaged in farming for 20 years and later moved into town. They were married for 51 years prior to his death on April 8, 2001.

Florence enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and pies were her specialty. She enjoyed sewing clothes for their daughter, Diana and then later switched to making quilt tops. She made numerous sizes for the grandchildren as they grew up, but her final quilts completed in her early 90’s, were three queen size quilts: one for Diana and one for each grandchild as part of their wedding gift. Her family and close friends all knew her as “Grammy”.

She was an avid KU Jayhawk Fan and never missed a game on TV. She always looked forward to March Madness during basketball season. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and the Newton Chapter # 5 order of the Eastern Star-Past Matron and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her daughter and son in law: Diana and Steve Gomez of Newton, grandchildren: Christopher and Jamie Gomez of Lawrence, Kansas, Stephanie and Ryan Forster of Overland Park, Kansas; great grandson: Max Steven Gomez and step great-granddaughter: Stella Forster.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest “Ernie” Rosiere; parents: Wilhelm and Wilhelmina Kater; and brother: Edward Kater.

A Funeral Service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 25th at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24th at the funeral home, with the family present from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. to greet friends. A committal service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery immediately following the chapel service.
