Garry Wayne Irby, “G.W.”, passed away at his residence on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013. Garry retired as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a self-employed “handyman” and could rebuild or fix almost anything.Garry was born on Feb. 14, 1942, in Springfield Green Co., Mo., to Waldo and Taney (Bass) Irby. Garry married Sandy Lynn Bishop on Sept. 10, 1988, in Reno, Nev. She survives in the home.He is survived by his wife, Sandy Irby; sons, Sean Abbott of Newton and Cory “Spence” Abbott of Peabody; two daughters, Terry and Darel Davis of Bad Hamburg, Germany, Meredith and Murray Anderson of Newton; two brothers, Jerry Irby of Strafford, Mo., and Ted Volen of Hoyt; two sisters, Carol Van Zandt of Springfield, Mo., and Lola Shuman of Newton; and eight grandchildren. He enjoyed and deeply cared for his grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his mother and father.A celebration of life is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at the Petersen Funeral Home Chapel.
