Gary Budde, age 67 of rural Newton, entered into the presence of God Tuesday morning, October 2nd, 2018, following a courageous two year battle with cancer. He died at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born May 28, 1951 the third child and only son of Albert and Agnes Budde of rural Newton. He spent his childhood on the family farm East of Newton.
Gary’s first grade class was the last class to start at Kelly School, a one room school, one half mile south of the family farm. He finished his grade school years at Pleasant Acres School before moving on to Newton High School, graduating with the class of 1969. Gary graduated from Wichita Technical Institute with a degree in Electronics.
Gary served in the United States Air Force from December 1970 until December 1974. He completed his basic training in Colorado Springs before being stationed at White Sands, NM, McConnell AFB, Wichita, and at Bentwaters AFB Suffolk, England. While in the Air Force he worked as an electronic lab technician in PMEL-Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory, calibrating equipment in measurements as small as millionths.
On August 18, 1973 he married Linda Miller of Hesston. After their time in the Air Force, they established their home on the family farm, East of Newton. Gary was a self-employed farmer in addition to establishing J & G Fabrication, a welding and fabrication business.
Gary was a good and loving family man. He enjoyed being involved with his children’s activities, whether it was working on the farm, or with 4-H, Saddle Club, skiing with the family, traveling or activities at K-State. He served on the Harvey County 4-H Fair Board and as a Pleasant Township trustee.
Gary is survived by his wife Linda, son Josh and wife Jen, their children, Grace, Beau, Stella and Luke, of Newton, daughter Steph and husband David McCorkle, their children Kendra Ek, Kylee and Sydney McCorkle, of Elbing, his sisters Donna Miller, of Sacramento, and Janet Bair, of Newton.

Memorials are suggested to Good Shepherd Hospice or First United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main, Newton, KS. 67114.
Linda (& family),
Sorry to hear about Gary. I just remembered that I was at your wedding and accompanied a singer (her name was Vicky I think) on guitar. It sounds like you enjoyed building your lives and a family together over these years. I’m sure Gary is missed greatly!
Be blessed,
Gale (GR) Horst
Ecclesiastes 3 tells us that a time will come when we all will die. Though death is humankind common destiny, God has provided victory over death. That victory gives us the chance to some day meet Gary again. Linda and the Budde family, please take consolation in the fact that Gary is in a better place. God’s comfort at this time.
My condolences to you Linda and your family. Keeping you all in my prayers.
