Gary Schroeder

d. April 27, 2013

Gary L. Schroeder, 62, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at his Goessel residence.

He was born May 26, 1950, in Goessel to Galen and LaWanda (Schmidt) Schroeder. On June 15, 1979, he married Vivian Base in Boston, MA, and she survives of the home.

Gary was a graduate of Goessel High School and a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton. He worked in assembly and MoRidge in Moundridge. Gary attended Automotive Tech School and also completed Medical Assistant School. Second only to his family were Gary’s cars. He enjoyed restoring and showing cars, especially his Chevys. He was known to humble himself and work on other brands of cars as they were brought to him, but his love of classic Chevys was well known.

Gary was blessed with a large, loving family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his 13 grandchildren. He was known as an avid reader and a man of intelligence. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

He is survived by his parents, Galen and LaWanda Schroeder of Chandler, AZ; wife, Vivian “Viv” Schroeder of Goessel; son, Mark Schroeder of Prairie Farm, WI; daughters, Megan Schroeder of Cheney, and Casynda Lynne Redling of Mesa, AZ; one brother, Bradley Schroeder of Cave Creek, AZ; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Schroeder

A celebration of Gary’s life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Newton, with Pastor Chip Bungard presiding. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home. There will be a private family interment service.

Memorials are suggested to the Gary Schroeder grandchildren’s education fund. They may be left with the family or forwarded to Petersen Funeral Home.
