George William Mock, a beloved father, husband, ordained minister, and cherished member of the community passed away on February 13, 2024, at Kansas Christian Home in Newton, Kansas. He was born on March 22, 1929, in West Allis, Wisconsin. Throughout his life, George touched the hearts of many with his kind spirit and dedication to serving others.
George's journey in life was marked by his commitment to faith and service. After graduating from Concordia Theological Seminary in 1955, he embarked on a fulfilling career that saw him serve Lutheran parishes in New Mexico and South Dakota. His passion for guiding others in their spiritual journeys led him to a 25-year career as a Protestant Chaplain at Oak Forest Hospital in Illinois. His proudest accomplishment was being an ordained minister in the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.
Those who knew George will fondly remember his great sense of humor and love for telling dad jokes. His warm personality and quick wit endeared him to all who had the pleasure of meeting him. In his free time, George found joy in volunteering for prison ministry and veteran homes well into his late 80s. He also spent many happy years wintering in Arizona and summering at their lake cottage in Weyauwega, Wisconsin, where he delighted in gardening.
George's family meant everything to him. He is survived by his loving wife, Delores Ann "Schroeder" Mock. He will be deeply missed by his children: George (Betty) Mock, Melanie (Matt) Hickcox, Catherine (Tom) Atwater, Garth Mock, Sara (Trey) Bare, and his former daughter-in-law, Aimee Mock; along with a host of grandchildren Peggy (Jake) Larson, Kelly (Justin) Manders, Jenny Mock, Drew (Ahilya) Hickcox, Adam Hickcox, Jocelyn Hickcox, Amy (Winter) Hodge, Eric Atwater, Oliva Atwater, Emily (Jacob) Caprizzi, Heydon Mock, Mason Mock, Sawyer Mock, Keria Mock, Max Bare, Ami Bare, eight great grandchildren and relatives and friends.
George is preceded in death by father George Andrew Mock; mother Mary C. "Wolf" Mock and sister Carla Wester;
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on July 12th, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church in Newton, Kansas. It is an opportunity for all who knew George to come together and honor his memory with a lunch following the service at the church.
In the tapestry of life that George William Mock has woven with love and compassion, may his legacy continue to inspire us all to live with kindness and devotion to others. May he rest in peace knowing that he has made an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A special Thank You to the many caregivers at Kansas Christian Home for their excellent care, given to George since moving in KCH two years ago.
Memorial contributions can be made out to Concordia Theological Seminary, Zion Lutheran Church or Kansas Christian Home and left in care of the family.
