Newton

Gerald "Piggy L. Jost," a cherished member of the Newton community, passed away peacefully on October 11 , 2024 at his home in Newton, Kansas, at the age of 73. Born on April 2, 1951, he was the beloved son of Victor and Helen (Childs) Jost, who preceded him in death.

A proud graduate of Remington High School, Gerald dedicated himself to a career as a welder. His professional journey included notable positions at AGI Tramco in Wichita and Agco Corporation in Hesston, Kansas, from which he retired in 2017. His expertise and work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and friends.

In his personal life, Gerald experienced both love and companionship. He was married for a brief period to Sue Goodwin Jost from 1985 to 1990. However, it was in 2001 that he found his true partner in life, Jean Mitchell, with whom he shared many happy moments and experiences.

Gerald had a passion for the outdoors, finding joy in activities such as fishing, hunting, and the company of horses. He also had an adventurous spirit, often participating in demolition derbies and enjoying the thrill they provided. Bowling was another of his great loves; he spent many years at the lanes, forging lifelong friendships through the sport. Known affectionately as "Piggy," he was also a devoted fan of Western movies, often finding comfort and always finding entertainment in their storytelling, no matter how many times he had seen them.

Those who knew Gerald will remember him as a quiet, kind, and friendly individual, whose presence brought warmth and joy to those around him. His absence will be deeply felt by many who had the privilege to call him a friend or loved one.

Gerald is survived by his life partner, Jean Mitchell, as well as two step-sons, Jacob Mitchell and Lucas (Danica) Mitchell. He is also survived by two step-daughters, Barbara Hamlin and Pamela Swan, and his beloved grandson, Dustin Jost. As well as nine other grandchildren and six great grandchildren

As we remember Gerald "Piggy L. Jost," his legacy of kindness and friendship will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.

There will be no formal funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
