Grace “Gracie” Hood

Georgia Grace (Gracie) Hood was born June 18, 1927 in Lyons, KS. to Willie and Cora Ann (Garner) Ingrim.  She married the love of her life, Allen D. Hood Feb. 15, 1958, who preceded her in death.

In 1947, Gracie started working at McPherson’s Dillons.  In 1951 she came to Newton to help open a new Safeway, working there until her marriage in1958.  Gracie worked at Bethel Deaconess Hospital in the laundry, retiring in 1985.

Gracie attended First Baptist Church in Newton. She served as financial secretary  and superintendent of vacation bible school.  She was superintendent of the nursery from 1976-2005. She also volunteered for Caring Hands Humane Society for many years.

Gracie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially playing cards with her special friends.  Her hobbies were collecting dolls and Johnny Cash collectibles.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews Sharon (husband Stan) Schnelle of Mission, TX, Harley Morgan (wife Nina) of Evans, GA, Suzanne Morgan of Concord, CA, Rebecca Morgan of San Jose, CA, Michael Morrison (wife Holley) of Logan, UT, Marilyn McKeever (husband John) of Summerville, SC, Lori (husband Mark) of Las Vegas, NV, Rick Ingrim (wife Chris) of Hutchinson, KS, Sandra Rohe of Newton, KS, and Laura Franz (husband Kelly) of Newton, KS. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.  Gracie was predeceased by her parents, her brother Bill D Ingrim, sisters Betty (Ingrim) Morgan and Shirley (Ingrim) Rohe.

On January 24th she was laid to rest at Restlawn Garden of Memory next to the love of her life.

Memorials may be sent to the Caring Hands Humane Society or the First Baptist Church.
