Harold D. Buller

January 31, 2015

Harold D. Buller, 90, went to be with the Lord on January 31, 2015 at Kansas Christian Home in Newton after a brief illness.  He was born on September 22, 1924 near Canton, Kansas to David D. and Lydia (Schmidt) Buller.  He grew up on farms near Canton and Peabody, and was a 1943 graduate of Peabody High School.  In 1955 he married the former Verna Mae Voth.  After living briefly in Newton they moved to a farm near Burrton.  He worked for the Orville Haas International dealership (1948-1955), American Coach Company (1955), as a carpenter (1955-1965), and Hesston Corp. (1965 until retirement in 1988).  He enjoyed farming, finding creative solutions to technical problems of various types, woodcarving and spending time with family.  He had an ever present and lively sense of humor.  He was a quiet inspiration to the many people who observed his lifelong integrity, his consistency and his Christian life.  Harold was preceded in death by his wife Verna, son Galen, sister Hilda, brother Raymond and brother Lloyd.  He is survived by three brothers, Wesley, Clarence, and Arlo; two sisters, Elizabeth and Pearl; two sons, Darryl and Bradley; and four grandchildren Mark, Maria, David and Leanne. Visitation will be at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, Kansas from 5-9pm Tuesday, February 3, 2015 with family greeting friends from 6:30 -8pm.   Funeral Service will be held at 2pm Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Merdian Baptist Church in Newton, KS with Pastors Scott Kliewer and Jerroll Martens officiating.  Burial will follow the funeral service at Hoffnungsau Cemetery near Inman, KS.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made out to Gentiva Hospice Foundation.

  1. What a life lived in faithfulness to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. “Out of the body and into the presence of the Lord”….”Well done, good and faithful servant” …A blessing to all who knew him. We grieve his continued presence here on earth, but even more we celebrate that he continues life forever in the presence of the Lord and many who have gone before him! We are so thankful for Harold, his life, his legacy, his love for his Saviour!

Steve Green sings a song which makes me think of Harold…and may it inspire each of us as we live out our lives:
    We’re pilgrims on the journey
    Of the narrow road
And those who’ve gone before us line the way
Cheering on the faithful, encouraging the weary
Their lives a stirring testament to God’s sustaining grace

Surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses
Let us run the race not only for the prize
But as those who’ve gone before us
Let us leave to those behind us
The heritage of faithfulness passed on through godly lives

Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful
May the fire of our devotion light their way
May the footprints that we leave
    Lead them to believe
And the lives we live inspire them to obey

Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful

After all our hopes and dreams have come and gone
And our children sift through all we’ve left behind
May the clues that they discover and the memories they uncover
Become the light that leads them to the road we each must find

Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful
Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful…

    Ann and Arlo Buller
