Harold “Hal” Prentiss

January 1, 2018

Harold B. “Hal” Prentiss, Jr., 81, died Monday, January 1, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital.  He was born July 1, 1936 in Valparaiso, Indiana to Harold B. Sr. and Bonnie L. (Fisher) Prentiss.  On March 15, 1974 he married Rose-Elaine “Len” Caedo in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.  They were married for 43 years. She survives of the home.

Hal served his country in the United States Army Green Berets attaining the rank of Captain.  He was a graduate of the University of Indiana where he earned his M.D.  He worked as a radiologist at the former Halstead Hospital and Hertzler Clinic.

Hal was a classical music enthusiast and an accomplished piano player; every family gathering was beautifully accompanied by his music.  He had a love of golf and tennis. He played tennis multiple times a week with a dear group of friends, and he even had a hole-in-one. Dogs

have also been important in Hal’s life and there was always at least one in the home to sit in his lap. His beloved little Yorkshire Terrier Bojangles joined the family in 2002, and the strength of their bond was apparent when Bo passed on only days before Hal.

Of all of Hal’s accomplishments and joys in life, he was most proud of being a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He greatly enjoyed traveling all over the world with his wife, Europe being a favorite destination.  The annual family trips to Hillsborough and Palm Desert, California were anticipated highlights of the year. He always looked forward to spending time with his daughters, sons-in-law, granddaughters, and grandpuppies.  He was a constant source of the latest technology and news, advice, laughter, and wine refills.

Hal is survived by his loving wife Len Prentiss of the home; daughters: Pilar L. Prentiss of Durham, N.C.; Jennifer A. Prentiss Keane and her husband Bryan Keane of Hillsborough, CA and Sandra M. Prentiss and her partner Daniel Sotomayor of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; and one brother Jerry E. Prentiss of Honolulu, HI. Hal is also survived by three granddaughters: Savannah, Juliana and Emerson Keane.

Hal is preceded in death by his parents.
