Helen was born June 7, 1913, in Florence, Kansas, to Walter and Inez (Manchester) Allison.
She was a long-term resident of Newton, moving here in 1932. She was a former Southwestern Bell telephone operator and homemaker. She was a long-term member of Salem United Methodist Church of Newton.
She married Hartley G. Brunner, of Newton, on February 14, 1934, in Emporia, Kansas. They were married for 75 years until his death in 1999.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice Thomas Schulz and husband Bob of Salina, Kansas; granddaughters, Beth Thomas of Anchorage, Alaska, and Penny Vermeul of Richland, Washington; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Vermeul, Tessa Vermeul, and Molly Bailey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hartley G. Brunner; parents, Walter and Inez Allison; four sisters; and one brother.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 8, at Petersen Funeral Home of Newton. No visitation is scheduled. A committal will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. The Reverend Nancy Crowel is the presiding pastor.
A memorial has been set up for Salem United Methodist Church, 115 Old Main Street, Newton, KS 67114.
