Helen E. (Smith) Harris 92, died Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Asbury Park Greenhouse in Newton, Kansas. She was born September 27, 1921 in Newton, Kansas to Benjamin R. and Ellen Pearl (Fox) Smith. On June 9, 1940 she married Paul E. Harris and he preceded her in death on February 14, 1982. Helen attended First Church of the Nazarene in Newton. She was retired from the ordering department at Boeing Aircraft Company in Wichita where she worked for 35 years. Helen was a member of the circle 8 square dance club of Newton for many years and Whitewater Kids Club. Helen greatly enjoyed spending time with her loving family and many friends.
She is survived by her daughter Helena (Harris) Hackney of Newton, KS; son Darwin and his wife Colleen Harris of El Dorado, KS; 6 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren 2 great great grandchildren. Sister in law Ruth Luff of El dorado, KS
She is preceded in death by her husband Paul E. Harris; son Harold E. Harris parents, brother’s William, infant Ezra, Leo; sister’s Lillian Cave, Mary Blanche Parker, niece Barbara “Bobbie” Holzer, great grandson Jordan Harris.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday February 24, 2014 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Bill Eichelberger presiding. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the chapel.
Graveside service will be in Greenwood Cemetery Newton.
Memorials are suggested to Good Shepherd Hospice or Whitewater American Legion in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
