Herman Lawrence Toevs went to be with his Lord on March 5th, 2017. He passed away peacefully attended by family at Kidron Bethel Retirement Home. He was born on January 19th, 1924 to J.C and Marie Claassen Toevs in rural Whitewater, where he spent most of his working life on the family farm. He retired from farming in 1978 and moved to Newton where he was a resident for the rest of his life.

Herman married his wife Bertha Mae Dyck on November 26th, 1948.  Herman and Bert enjoyed very active lives in the community including being part of the local 4-H, youth leaders at Emmaus Mennonite Church, co-owning Mid- Kansas Bus Service, and opening The Breadbasket in Newton in 1984 until selling it in 1991 .

Herman was preceded in death by his wife Bertha Toevs, his twin sister Eleanor, brothers Kenneth and Arthur Toevs, and his three children Paul, Janet, and James Toevs.  He is survived by his sister Edna (Eddie) Krehbiel and two grandchildren, Jason (Shelbie) and Joshua Toevs.

Herman will be missed by his family and the community. A Memorial Service will be held at the Bethel College Mennonite Church, Newton, Kansas on March 10, 2017 at 3:00 pm.
