Ila Jean Sauerwein

Ila Jean Sauerwein 94, died Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Paramount Health and Rehab in Newton.  She was born July 24, 1927 in Newton, Kansas to O.F. and Ella (Poutz) Cummings.

On May 30, 1948 she married Robert “Bob” Sauerwein in Newton and he preceded her in death on February 22, 2000.

Ila Jean was a longtime active member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Newton.

She is survived by her son Terry and his wife Carol Sauerwein of Newton, their three children, Chris and Jenny Sauerwein, their children Cody and McKenzie of Newton, Kevin and Ginger Sauerwein, their children Leah and Nellie of Walton, and Chris Idhe and Erika, children Georgia, Brenley, Cooper and Hudson of Kansas City, her Grandson Justin Sauerwein and Rachel, their children Isla, Anna, Charlotte, John and James of Chelsea, Vermont.

Ila Jean is preceded in death by her parents, husband and son Dr. Tom Sauerwein.  She is also preceded in death by her brothers Earl, Lester and Warren and sister’s Gladys, Ruth, Erma and Thada.

A visitation will be Monday January 31, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home. A private family service will be held with Pastor Willy Banza officiating and the burial in Restlawn Gardens of Memory. A celebration memorial service will be scheduled at a later date at Salem United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and left with Petersen Funeral Home.
