Iona E. Rose passed away on March 9th at Kansas Christian Home in Newton.

 

Iona was born in Chinook, Montana, on May 12, 1918, to Ross and Nettie Mundell.

 

She was a graduate of North High School and the St. Joseph School of Nursing where she was awarded the Honor Certificate in 1941.  The Honor Certificate was presented by the Wichita Hospital Alumni Association.  Through her career Iona worked in many areas in the field of nursing.

 

She married Dr. A. Wayne Rose, Pedodontist, on June 10, 1944, in Wichita, Kansas.  He preceded her in death on December 19, 1998.

 

Wayne and Iona did not have children of their own, but they loved many, especially their nieces and nephews. The St. Luke Evangelical Church of Newton and her special friends were deeply loved and appreciated by Iona. Those friends were: Patricia Black, Darlene Busenitz, Katy Coy, Barb Kristenson, Anita Sadowski, Collen Ward, and Charlotte Wiebe.

 

She is survived by nieces and nephews: Jackie Pate-Webb, Michelle Pate-Herbstreit, Nonajean Pate-Reber, Ramono Pate-Smith, and Wayne Paul Rose; and many great nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents: Ross and Nettie Mundell; sisters: Nedra Mundell-Pate, Mona Mundell; brothers: Sammy, Donald, and K. Dee Mundell; and nephew: William Pate.

 

Memorial services are scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 12th, at the St. Luke Evangelical Church of Newton. Friends are invited to a gathering before the memorial beginning at 11:00 a.m., to enjoy light refreshments and fellowship. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11th, at Petersen Funeral Home.  The family will be present to greet friends and family from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.  A private family committal will follow the service.

 

Memorials have been set up for: St. Luke Evangelical Church, and the Wichita Botanica Gardens of Wichita.
