Irene Woolery

Irene D. Woolery 98, died Sunday September 8, 2013 at Sedgwick Plaza in Wichita, Kansas.  She was born December 3, 1914 in Walton, Kansas to Oscar and Elizabeth (Thimm) Theleman.  Irene met her future husband Phil playing horseshoes in the park and on April 6, 1942 she married Robert “Phil” Woolery and he preceded her in death in 1989. 


Irene was a loving wife and mother and enjoyed being a stay at home mom to her two daughters Roberta and Joetta Sue.  She enjoyed sewing and making clothes for her children in addition to crocheting and knitting gifts for family and friends.  Irene’s warm witty personality will missed by many. She greatly enjoyed her time with family and her many friends at Sedgwick Plaza.


She is survived by her daughter Roberta Brown of Wichita, Kansas; sister Evelyn M. Atkisson of Wichita, KS; grandsons Robert Todd Brown, Jeffery Warren Brown, Douglas Andrew Brown; 4 great grandchildren Jack Brown, Harrison and Margaret Brown and Sydney Brown.


She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Joetta Sue Hastings; brother Walter Theleman and sister Mildred Bahr.


Graveside committal service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Greenwood Cemetery with The Reverend Aaron Filipek presiding.  Visitation will family will be 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Petersen Funeral Home.


Memorials are suggested to American Red Cross in care of Petersen Funeral Home.

  1. Hi Roberta, You won’t remember me but I was a really good friend of Jett A’s in grade school.I saw on your mom’s obituary that Joetta had passed.I tried to look up information about her but had no luck..Could you tell me about her.
